Own the Narrative or be Forgotten: Why Every Female Founder in Singapore Needs to Document Her Legacy Now
Own your story or be forgotten. Discover why visibility is a strategic power for female founders in Singapore and how documenting your legacy closes the funding gap.
In the vibrant ecosystem of Singapore, female founders are no longer a rarity, they are a force. According to the Singapore Department of Statistics, the number of women-owned companies has more than doubled in the last decade, now accounting for roughly 25% of all resident-owned businesses.
Yet, a striking paradox remains. While women are building, the narrative is often still being written by others.
The Visibility Gap: Data Doesn't Lie
Despite owning a quarter of the companies in Singapore, female founders consistently face a disproportionate struggle for capital and coverage. Recent 2025 reports indicate that globally, less than 3% of venture capital funding goes to female-led startups. In Singapore, while we fare slightly better in early-stage support, the "Scale-up" phase remains male-dominated.
Why? Because in the world of high-stakes business, visibility is not vanity, it is power. It is the power to be remembered when a VC is looking for their next unicorn. It is the power to be the first name called when a journalist needs a visionary quote. It is the power that opens doors you didn’t even know were there.
“If You Are Not Findable, You Are Not Fundable”
In a recent episode of our Women Seen Documentary series, Uma Thana of Elevate and Lean In captured this reality perfectly:
"If you are not findable, you are not fundable."
Today, being "findable" requires more than just a LinkedIn profile. It requires a presence across both social and classic media that communicates your authority, your grit, and your legacy. If you don't document your story, you leave it to the algorithm or the archives to decide your worth.
Documenting the Singaporean Narrative
Singapore's history is being written daily by its trailblazers. By cinematically documenting your journey, you aren't just "posting content", you are:
Building Social Proof: Turning your internal milestones into external authority.
Mentoring at Scale: Providing a blueprint for the next generation of Singaporean girls who need to see it to be it.
Securing Your Seat: Ensuring your contribution to the "Lion City’s" economy is etched into the cultural record.
Your business is your life’s work. Don’t let it be a footnote.
Claim Your Narrative
Your legacy deserves to be seen, heard, and remembered. I specialize in creating cinematic documentary portraits for female leaders who are ready to move from the shadows of their operations into the light of their true influence.
Are you ready to become "findable"?

For me, this exhibition was more than a showcase—it was an invitation to pause. To notice the shapes of silence, the architecture of shadow, the tension between presence and absence. Each frame reflected my documentary approach: unscripted, emotionally resonant, and deeply human.
From the subtle strength of a woman crossing into the unknown, to the looming stillness of masculine form echoing time’s quiet pressure, every image asked a question:
What do we carry? What do we leave behind? Who are we becoming in the space between?
My lens seeks not perfection, but truth. Not poses, but presence.
This body of work continues the conversation I’ve been nurturing through 88 Productions—merging cinematic storytelling with documentary photography, always with an eye toward identity, empowerment, and the beauty of being fully seen.
See the Story: 13 Photography Exercises to Train Your Eye for Meaning
Discover 13 powerful photography exercises designed to help you see the world through a more intentional, storytelling lens. Created by 88 Productions, a Singapore-based creative agency led by award-winning filmmaker and photographer Theodora Voutsa, this guide is perfect for photographers of all levels who want to deepen their visual storytelling skills. Learn how to capture emotion, presence, and authenticity with prompts that mirror a documentary-style approach. Whether you’re shooting for personal growth or professional development, these exercises will train your eye to notice the moments that matter. Book a session or private photography class with 88 Productions to take your storytelling further.
At 88 Productions, we believe photography is not just about capturing an image — it’s about honoring presence. It’s about noticing the breath between moments, the glance before the laugh, the pause before someone speaks. It’s where the real story lives.
Founded by filmmaker and storyteller Theodora Voutsa, 88 Productions has always stood at the intersection of emotion and art. With over two decades of experience behind and in front of the camera, Theodora’s approach to photography is rooted in deep listening, visual poetry, and documentary-style truth. Whether we’re working with families, creatives, or brands, we always return to the same question: What does this moment mean?
These 13 exercises were created to help you begin to see like a documentarian — to move beyond taking a picture, and instead, start keeping a memory. Each prompt invites you to slow down and explore how to tell a story with light, timing, and intention.
1. A Day in a Life (Yours)
Document your own day — but do it like a stranger walking through your world for the first time. From bedhead to bedtime, trace the rhythm of your life. Look for gestures, rituals, stillness. Don’t pose anything. Just witness.
2. Shoot with One Emotion in Mind
Choose a single emotion — joy, nostalgia, tension, calm — and let it guide your lens for the day. Let your intuition pick the moments. Pay attention to how that emotion shapes color, light, and composition.
3. 10 Frames, One Room
Choose one room. Stay put. You’re only allowed 10 frames. That’s it. Wait for something real — a movement, a glance, a shift in light. The constraint will force you to see differently.
4. Stranger, One Portrait
Ask a stranger for their portrait. But make it more than a click. Ask their name. Ask where they’re headed. Then take the photo after the connection is made.
5. Shoot Through Something
Curtains. Glass. Fences. Mirrors. Photograph through something to introduce layers — mystery, intimacy, story. Let the viewer feel like they’re peeking into a scene they weren’t supposed to see.
6. Photograph Absence
Sometimes what’s missing tells the story. An empty chair. A pair of worn shoes. A jacket left behind. Let the photograph suggest presence through absence.
7. “Yes, and…”: The Improv Exercise
Take one photo. Then take another that responds to it. Keep building. Like visual improv. Frame by frame, create a story without planning it.
8. The 5-Sense Series
Choose a single location. Photograph it through all five senses. What does it smell like? What textures live there? How does the light sound? Capture sensory layers through imagery.
9. Shoot Without Looking
Set your camera at hip level. Don’t look through the viewfinder. Move through a space and click when something feels right. Embrace the surprise. See what your instinct sees.
10. Capture Contrasts
Find opposites and hold them in a frame: light and dark, stillness and motion, old and new. Every contrast is a tension, and tension makes story.
11. A Portrait Without a Face
Photograph someone without showing their face. Let their posture, hands, clothing, or space tell us who they are. Leave room for imagination.
12. Same Street, Different Story
Walk the same street at three different times of day — morning, afternoon, night. Watch how it changes. The people, the sounds, the quality of light. Everything is a story of time.
13. The Unseen Self-Portrait
Take a self-portrait without your face. Let your presence be known through what you leave behind — your coffee cup, your shoes, your half-written journal. Make it quiet. Make it real.
Photography is a kind of mindfulness. A way of paying attention. Try one or two of these exercises each week — not to take the perfect shot, but to learn how to see with more depth, more tenderness, more curiosity.
When you’re ready to take it further, we’re here — whether you want to book a photography session, join a private workshop, or simply learn how to tell stories with your lens.

Photographing a Global Coach in Singapore: A Behind-the-Scenes Look with 88 Productions
At 88 Productions, we recently had the pleasure of photographing a renowned global coach, Karolina Przybylska, in the vibrant city of Singapore. This project is a testament to our commitment to supporting passionate individuals who are making a difference in their fields. Collaborating with such a dynamic and enthusiastic personality aligns perfectly with our mission of empowerment and visibility, helping to bring their unique stories to life through powerful visuals.
The Power of Visuals in the Coaching Business
In today's digital age, visuals play an indispensable role in the success of any business, and the coaching industry is no exception.
High-quality photography is essential in building a personal brand that resonates with clients. It not only captures the essence of the coach's personality and philosophy but also creates an emotional connection that words alone cannot achieve.
Through compelling imagery, coaches can effectively communicate their message, showcase their professionalism, and build trust with potential clients.
The Creative Brief we came up with after talking with Karolina:
For this photoshoot, we aimed to capture the transformative journey of the mindset coach who has risen from a place of self-doubt and anxiety to one of clarity, confidence, and empowerment.
The imagery should reflect the coach's present, highlighting the newfound sense of purpose. Scenes will include serene, meditative environments to symbolize the balance of inner peace and active personal growth. We will combine the “traditional” approach of meditation with the modern “costume” she will wear. Earth and neutral tones. Looks directly into camera, connecting with her audience. Karolina is a global coach, she travels around the world and has clients from different countries; the background should be neutral without specific cultural identity. We should also create images with negative space so she can add quotes and titles for her social media images.
We will emphasize authenticity, capturing candid moments that showcase the coach's relatable vulnerability and inspirational strength. We will not do the standard “staged” scenes of the coach “talking” to clients or looking at a laptop. Karolina is unique and one of a kind; her visuals should convey that.
The final visuals will serve to connect with mid-career professionals seeking direction, conveying a message of hope, resilience, and the power of self-discovery through coaching.
Connecting with Clients Through Photography
Photography is a powerful tool that helps coaches connect with their clients on a deeper level. It allows them to showcase their authenticity, passion, and expertise, making their services more relatable and accessible.
A well-crafted photograph can capture the energy and enthusiasm of a coach, making it easier for clients to envision themselves working with them.
At 88 Productions, we understand the nuances of creating such impactful visuals, ensuring that every shot tells a story and highlights the unique qualities of the coach.

Are you a Third Culture Kid? Are you raising a TCK?
TCK Documentary
Are you a Third Culture Kid?
Are you raising a TCK?
We want to hear your story.
“Where is Home?” is a documentary about Third Culture Kids. TCKs are children who have been raised in countries and cultures different from the ones of their parents’ passports.
The questions we ask are:
How do these mothers raise their kids? How do these mothers find balance in their own life? How do they create the sense of roots and home in their kids mind when they have to travel every few years and leave everything behind? How do they deal with loss? What effect does that have to the girls they are raising? What does that mean for the world of tomorrow?
We interview Singaporeans who have traveled the world and expats living in Singapore.
There is a very interesting article by Kate Mayberry from the BBC, where she talks about TCKs. Ms. Mayberry describes what happens to children at the end of their time at Garden International School in Kuala Lumpur. They receive a kit with a sour sweet, a length of ribbon, a paper clip, a sponge and a rubber band. These items are chose to prompt a discussion about what leaving means - bittersweet emotions, tying up loose ends, making memories. Every departing child is also recognised during school assembly. This way the school explains to them how important it is to say good bye. Just for Garden International School, 65% of its students have come from countries outside Malaysia and for many that is not their first experience living overseas.
“Third Culture Kids” is a term coined by US sociologist Ruth Hill Useem in the 1950s, for children who spend their formative years in places that are not their parents’ homeland. Globalisation has made TCKs more common; and with the rates of globalisation growth, TCKs will become more and more in the years to come.
TCKs are mostly children of expatriate workers, but they can come from transnational marriages or - as very commonly in Asia - attend an International school in their home country.

5 tips for On Camera Presence
We will use The Los Angeles Method technique, a dynamic combination of Acting and Personal Development techniques, to learn about how to “perform” on camera.
You will learn
how to use your voice and body,
how to technically position yourselves in front of the camera (light, sound, frame)
how to deliver your message
how to create instant chemistry
5 tips for On Camera Presence by The Los Angeles Method
It seems that video calls and zoom meetings and video creation have become part of our everyday vocabulary. It used to be that only actors, performers and news anchors had to stand in front of a camera. But now? Now things have changed.
Now most of us spend a significant amount of time every day in front of a camera. Whether it is the camera at the Zoom meeting at work, the DSLR camera of a content creator using video to grow their business and communicate their business’ message, an influencer talking about the latest awesome make up, or even the phone camera during a video call with friends and family; we all experience exposure in front of the camera every day.
Maybe some of you might find yourselves in front of the camera more often than you would like. Whether you are filming a vlog, recording a tutorial, shooting a commercial, it is essential to have good camera presence.
Camera presence is the way you come across on camera, including your body language, facial expressions and overall energy. Your on camera presence is also crucial for presentations, interviews or any video recording that needs to make an impact.
You want to come across as confident and knowledgable, and most importantly you want viewers to be invested and interested in what you have to say.
I would like to share with you some tips from the work we do at The Los Angeles Method On Camera Presence Programme, to help you improve on your every day On Camera Presence.
When you talk to everyone, you talk to no one.
Imagine that the camera is a person and you are talking to them. When you look into the lens, do not think of the tens or hundreds of people looking at you. That can create stress and anxiety and the camera is a very sensitive tool that picks up on everything. You want to be relaxed and focused. So try a tool we use in Acting, called “Substitution”. Think of the person you would feel more comfortably talking about the subject you are presenting and imagine they are the camera. Your energy will shift immediately.
2. Plan, but also be in the flow
It is important to know ahead what you want to say. Once you know what you want to say, you can let go and be spontaneous and organic. Think of it as if someone was speaking to you. Would you want them the entire time they were talking to you to be looking at a piece of paper or a presentation board? You would want them to connect with you. We connect when we look into each other’s eyes. Imagine the camera is the eyes.
3. Look at the other person.
As mentioned above, we connect by looking at each other’s eyes. The “eyes” in this case is the lens, not the monitor. Put your attention on your audience, not on your own reflection. Maintain virtual eye contact with your viewer. Create a connection and make the conversation feel natural.
4. Improve Sound and Articulate well.
Voice is an important element of On Camera Presence so it is crucial to have good diction and pronunciation. If you speak too fast or mumble people will have a hard time receiving your message. Speak clearly and deliberately.
5. Light, Sound, Action!
Make sure you are well lit. No one will understand you on camera presence if they can not see you. Ideally you will want three sources of light; a key light: for you - usually in the front, a fill light - usually on the side to make the subject ( you) feel three dimensional and a back light - lighting the background, to separate you from the wall or background. If that set up is not possible, have one source light in front of you, like a window for example. Play with the height of the light source and the shadows it creates on your face.
Make sure your mic is on and not blocked by your hand (if you are holding a phone) or jammed. Sound is very important for a smooth experience.
Frame your self so your audience can clearly see you.
And you are good to go!
Have fun creating!

Benefits of Creative Leadership
The Los Angeles Method Creative Leadership Programme
We all learn all the time. Everyday we receive new information. The world is constantly changing and the new information help us create a new blueprint of the world.
Who is more comfortable with change? Creatives.
I remember being in a discussion a few years ago, among senior level corporate people… they were talking about the fact that in a few years IQ will not be important; instead EQ will be more valued in the business world. Why? The times where someone would join one company and spend all their business life there are gone. People will change 4 to 5, at least, jobs in their career. Who deals better with that kind of change? People with high EQ; Creatives.
The world is changing so fast, people, companies, organisations will have to adjust fast. Who adjusts fast? Creatives.
This is why understanding Creative Leadership is so important nowadays.
How can you grow Creative Leadership skills?
Obviously with The Los Angeles Method Creative Leadership Programme… !

THE BENEFITS
Expanded Perspective
The more you learn, the more you expose yourself to new ways of thinking and acting.
Boosted Imagination
Acting, for example, taps into your imagination and stimulates it. You create new neural pathways and you learn new ways of expressing yourself. With Creative Leadership you learn to approach problems from different angles and therefore get more ideas on how to tackle them.
Stronger Confidence
The personal fulfilment you get from learning, boosts your confidence. When you feel empowered and confident you are more likely to take risks, explore new possibilities and embrace new ideas.
Build Trust
The same way the sense of confidence makes you empowered, the same goes for your team. The more you know, the more the others feel trust in your capabilities.
Creative Connections
As Steve Jobs said: “Creativity is just connecting things”. Innovation begins when totally irrelevant ideas connect and make sense.
Now that you understand the importance of Creative Leadership, read more, learn more, try more.

Do you want to learn Acting and Personal Development Techniques for Creative Leadership?
Great! Listen to the podcast by The Los Angeles Method.
TLAM is a dynamic combination of Acting and Personal Development Techniques.
The definition of acting is “Living Truthfully under Imaginary Circumstances”. Acting is not pretending.
Personal Development is about being 100% responsible and conscious of the reality you are creating for your self.
We combine the two to create a method that gives you the tools to create the personal and business life you want and deserve; the same way an actor builds a Role.
Our mission is to change the world by empowering one individual at a time. Enough coaching, more acting!
ABOUT THEODORA
Welcome! My name is Theodora.
I am a very creative person and I wear different “hats” that express me.
I am filmmaker, a theatre creator, a teacher. All my identities are based on creative expression, connection and freedom.
I am the founder of 88 Productions, an award winning production house; led by women, focused on storytelling. We produce short films, documentaries, videos, we create theatre productions and we run an acting studio. In the acting studio we teach The Los Angeles Method; a dynamic combination of Acting and Personal Development Techniques.
It all started for me when I was really very young. I always knew I loved stories. I loved telling them, listening to them, helping others expressing them.
My father was one of the most legendary actors in Greece, which means I grew up in film sets, studios, theatre dressing rooms. He is the reason I love this business so much; the SHOW business.
I have learned early on that if you want to succeed, you need to show up and be willing to tell your story.
This is what I have been doing with my work through filmmaking, videography, theatre creation, photography, our Acting Studio; supporting people in showing up, sharing their authenticity, their voice and making an impact.
I believe the world can become a better place if we empower and lift each other. I do that through the stories I tell in my films and videos, at my photoshoots, in my theatre plays and in my classes. We empower one person at a time. Enough coaching, more acting! Time for Creative Leadership!
Love and Light to all.
