5 Modules to help you get from Camera Shy to Camera Ready!

Your Ultimate Handbook for

Technical Mastery, Dynamic Communication and Crafting Compelling Content

using Acting and Personal Development Techniques in 92 pages.

Unveil your Authenticity; Success is to be Seen.

The On-Camera Presence handbook is essential for individuals who are new to appearing on camera, whether for video creation content, social media videos, video conferences, presentations, or media appearances.

This is  a 5-module training programme designed to help beginners improve their on-camera presence. We cover everything from message, message delivery, technical aspects, visual cues and more, using Acting and Personal Development Techniques.

It is a step by step guide. You will read about what is Acting and how you can use Acting techniques to craft your message effectively, communicate with results and create instant chemistry with your audience.

By the end of this training, participants will be better equipped to present themselves confidently and effectively on camera, whether for business, public speaking, or other video-related endeavours.

A strong on camera presence enhances credibility and engagement. Success means To Be Seen. You deserve to be seen. It is safe for you to be seen.

We want to emphasise the importance of being visible and making a positive impact when appearing on camera, such as in videos, live streams or virtual meetings. Let's break down the key points:

  • Strong On-Camera Presence:

    • Having a strong on-camera presence refers to the ability to convey confidence, authenticity, and competence when appearing on camera.

    • This involves using effective body language, maintaining good eye contact, speaking clearly, and projecting a sense of professionalism.

  • Enhances Credibility and Engagement:

    • A strong on-camera presence contributes to an individual's credibility. When you appear confident and composed, you are more likely to be perceived as knowledgeable and trustworthy.

    • Engagement is vital, especially in the context of online communication. A compelling on-camera presence can captivate and hold the attention of your audience, fostering better communication and understanding.

  • Success Means To Be Seen:

    • In a professional or public context, success often involves visibility. Being seen and heard allows your ideas, expertise, and personality to be recognised, which can contribute to career growth and personal development.

  • You Deserve to Be Seen:

    • The work we do here, emphasises that everyone has valuable contributions and deserves recognition. It encourages individuals to step into the spotlight and showcase their skills and talents without hesitation or self-doubt.

  • It Is Safe for You to Be Seen:

    • This statement addresses any fears or concerns individuals may have about being in the public eye. It reassures them that showcasing themselves on camera is a positive and secure endeavour, promoting self-confidence and self-expression.

In summary, the message is about the positive impact of presenting oneself effectively on camera, both in terms of professional success and personal growth. It encourages individuals to embrace visibility, recognising their worth and the positive outcomes that can come from being seen in a confident and authentic manner, just like actors on a stage.

Are you a Third Culture Kid? Are you raising a TCK?

TCK Documentary

Are you a Third Culture Kid?

Are you raising a TCK?

We want to hear your story.

“Where is Home?” is a documentary about Third Culture Kids. TCKs are children who have been raised in countries and cultures different from the ones of their parents’ passports.

The questions we ask are:

How do these mothers raise their kids? How do these mothers find balance in their own life? How do they create the sense of roots and home in their kids mind when they have to travel every few years and leave everything behind? How do they deal with loss? What effect does that have to the girls they are raising? What does that mean for the world of tomorrow?

We interview Singaporeans who have traveled the world and expats living in Singapore.

There is a very interesting article by Kate Mayberry from the BBC, where she talks about TCKs. Ms. Mayberry describes what happens to children at the end of their time at Garden International School in Kuala Lumpur. They receive a kit with a sour sweet, a length of ribbon, a paper clip, a sponge and a rubber band. These items are chose to prompt a discussion about what leaving means - bittersweet emotions, tying up loose ends, making memories. Every departing child is also recognised during school assembly. This way the school explains to them how important it is to say good bye. Just for Garden International School, 65% of its students have come from countries outside Malaysia and for many that is not their first experience living overseas.

“Third Culture Kids” is a term coined by US sociologist Ruth Hill Useem in the 1950s, for children who spend their formative years in places that are not their parents’ homeland. Globalisation has made TCKs more common; and with the rates of globalisation growth, TCKs will become more and more in the years to come.

TCKs are mostly children of expatriate workers, but they can come from transnational marriages or - as very commonly in Asia - attend an International school in their home country.

"Rising Above the Noise: How Identity Video Content Can Authentically Elevate Your Brand’s Presence”

Identity Videos are a powerful tool for creating brand awareness, building trust and establishing connection with your audience. Let’s produce your identity video together.

BY 88 PRODUCTIONS

So you want to use the power of video to grow your business, but you do not know where to start.

What do you want your reputation to be? The Identity Video takes care of that!

I can help you create an Identity Video for you and your brand and I can explain to you why you need to make one right now!

Keep reading, because at the end of the article you get to find out how you can take advantage of the time sensitive offer for you.

What makes the brands YOU love successful?

They communicate their identity through consistent video presence.

WHAT IS AN IDENTITY VIDEO:

First of all let me explain what an identity video is, for those of you who might not know.

An Identity Video is a video designed to convey and establish the core identity, values and personality of a brand, organisation or individual. These videos help provide a deeper understanding of what a business or individual stands for, the mission, culture and the unique qualities that set it apart.

The key characteristics of an Identity Video are:

  1. Brand Essence

What is your essence? We highlight the values, vision and mission. We answer questions like “Who are we?” And “What do we believe in?”.

2. Storytelling

We use storytelling to create an emotional connection with the audience. These stories could be narratives of the brand’s history, the Founders or the Journey that led to the formation.

3. Visual and Aesthetic Elements

We incorporate elements of the brand’s visual identity: logo, colour scheme, overall design style.

4. Targeted Audience

We create the video with the targeted audience in mind; aiming to resonate with the values and aspirations of the people the brand wants to connect with.

5. Call To Action

Although the primary purpose of an identity video is to communicate the brand’s identity, it may also include a subtle call to action, encouraging viewers to explore further or to engage with the brand.

Identity Videos are a powerful tool for creating brand awareness, building trust and establishing connection with your audience. They can be particularly effective for brands who want to differentiate themselves in a competitive market and leave a lasting impression on viewers by communicating their unique identity and purpose.

HOW WE WILL WORK TOGETHER:

We take care of the script, the set up and the coaching.

  1. PRE PRODUCTION:

1. The Los Angeles Method:

C. POST PRODUCTION

1. You receive in your inbox:

1. One 2 to 3 minute video in landscape mode, with licensed music, colour grade, logos, titles, subtitles ( Subtitles are vital. 83% of YouTube - the second largest search engine- users watch videos without sound. Plus, the script in captions becomes your SEO)

2. 4 30 second portrait videos

3. 15 High Resolution Photos

WHY YOU SHOULD MAKE AN IDENTITY VIDEO:

You can grow your business with videos. Reach potential customers, get started now and start seeing results!

Connect with the people who matter most to your business.

Here are just 4 of the many reasons why you should jump on the video power train ASAP!

  1. REASON1: ACCESSIBILITY

People watch over 1 billion hours of videos just on YouTube (the second largest search engine) every day. A picture is worth a thousand words, a video is worth a million. Reach people when it is most relevant to them, in a search engine - looking for what you offer - and get more purchases, subscribers, website visits and more.

2. REASON 2: GROWTH

Viewers say that they are 2x more likely to buy something that they saw in a video. According to the same source 84% of consumers make a purchase after watching a video and feeling a sense of connection with the brand. (Source Wyzowl)

3. REASON 3: INCREASE YOUR PRESENCE

Search Engine Visibility; websites with videos are 53 times more likely to rank on the first page of Google search results. (Source Insivia)

4. REASON 4: TRUST

77% of consumers say that videos gave them more confidence in a product or service before making a purchase. (Source Wyzowl)

Beyond the Lens: The Art of Going on Camera

A comprehensive guide to unveil Your Authentic On-Screen Self by The Los Angeles Method.

ON CAMERA PRESENCE BY THE LOS ANGELES METHOD

Beyond the Lens: The Art of Going on Camera

In the digital age, the power of video has become an indispensable tool for communication, education, and entertainment.

Whether you're a content creator, a business professional, or simply sharing your personal stories with the world, going on camera is more than just standing in front of a lens. It's an art, a craft, and a skill that requires careful consideration and preparation. In this article, we will explore the multifaceted world of on-camera presence and list the things you should pay attention to before creating a video.

1. Content and Message

The very foundation of a compelling video lies in the content and message you wish to convey. Before stepping in front of the camera, take the time to thoroughly plan and script your content. Define your goals, key points, and the story you want to tell. A clear and concise message will captivate your audience and keep them engaged.

2. Know Your Audience

Understanding your target audience is paramount. Tailor your content to their interests, preferences, and needs. Consider the language, tone, and style that will resonate most with your viewers. This knowledge will help you connect with your audience on a deeper level.

3. Setting and Background

Pay attention to your filming environment. Your setting and background should complement your message and enhance the visual appeal of your video. Make sure the background is clutter-free and unobtrusive. Lighting is crucial, too – natural light or well-placed artificial lighting can greatly impact the overall quality of your video.

4. Wardrobe and Appearance

What you wear can influence how your audience perceives you. Dress appropriately for the subject matter and your target audience. Avoid distracting patterns and colors that may not translate well on camera. Additionally, personal grooming and makeup can make a big difference in your on-screen presence.

5. Rehearse and Practice

Being comfortable on camera often comes down to practice. Rehearse your script and delivery multiple times before recording. This will help reduce nervousness and ensure a smoother, more natural performance. Consider recording practice runs to identify areas for improvement.

6. Body Language and Facial Expressions

Your body language and facial expressions play a crucial role in conveying your message. Maintain good posture, make eye contact with the lens, and use gestures that complement your words. Smiling and showing enthusiasm can help establish a positive connection with your viewers.

7. Speaking Skills

Clear and articulate speech is essential for effective communication on camera. Slow down your speech slightly, enunciate words, and modulate your tone to keep your audience engaged. Avoid filler words like "um" and "uh" as they can detract from your message.

8. Audio Quality

Don't overlook audio quality. Invest in a good microphone and minimize background noise. Poor audio can ruin an otherwise well-prepared video.

9. Editing and Post-Production

After the recording is done, skilled video editing can significantly enhance the final product. Trim unnecessary segments, add captions or graphics, and improve the overall visual and auditory quality.

10. Confidence and Authenticity

While technique and preparation are crucial, remember to be yourself. This is a major segment in our training at the On Camera Presence Programme by The Los Angeles  Method. Authenticity and confidence can be powerful assets in front of the camera. Embrace your unique personality and let your passion shine through.

11. Engage with Your Audience

Don't forget to interact with your audience. Encourage comments, respond to questions, and build a community around your videos. This engagement can help you grow your audience and refine your content.

In conclusion, going on camera is a multifaceted endeavor that involves much more than just standing in front of a lens. From content planning and audience understanding to presentation skills and post-production, each aspect contributes to the quality and impact of your video. By paying attention to these elements, you can create videos that inform, entertain, and inspire, and establish a lasting connection with your viewers. So, embrace the art of going on camera and share your story with the world.

Women in Singapore

Women in Singapore. A docu series by 88 Productions, directed by Theodora Maria Voutsa.

88 Productions is a video production house, led by women, focused on storytelling.

One of the services we offer is the “mini documentary”.

The mini documentary is a cinematic video, in the form of a documentary, where we showcase the client, the brand, the business. This way the clients, the audience, gets to experience all the aspects; the behind the scenes, the creation, the ideas and values that form this business, understand the journey and connect with the struggles and successes. It is a storytelling tactic to “bring people in”. People get to hear the founder’s voice, figuratively and literally. We pick up the layers and look in.

Women’s empowerment has always been the reason I do a lot of things in my life. From my days in school, supporting my girl friends, voicing my objections to inequalities to my days as an entrepreneur, as a creator. The plays I direct are focused on women’s issues, the videos I produce, the workshops I teach. Everything is based on my need to support women to grow stronger and close the Gap.

Out of this love and “obsession”, WOMEN IN SINGAPORE was born.

Every few months we chose a woman who fascinates us and we create a mini documentary on her and the work she does. We waive our fee for the Mini Documentary Service we offer and we create a video for HER, as a gift, as a gesture of giving back for the amazing work she does to inspire us all.

Maria decided to make a shift in her life and start a new career after the birth of her sons; Sera is working through her business of sustainable fashion to educate us, while making us look amazing, on how we can leave a better planet for our kids; Khatija is changing the business world by helping create better workplaces for women.

It is our great joy and honour to present to you the stories of these women.

If you have a story to share, or you know of a woman whose story we need to show to the world, please contact us.

Thank you.

Love and Light,

T.

5 tips for On Camera Presence

We will use The Los Angeles Method technique, a dynamic combination of Acting and Personal Development techniques, to learn about how to “perform” on camera.

You will learn

  • how to use your voice and body,

  • how to technically position yourselves in front of the camera (light, sound, frame)

  • how to deliver your message

  • how to create instant chemistry

5 tips for On Camera Presence by The Los Angeles Method

It seems that video calls and zoom meetings and video creation have become part of our everyday vocabulary. It used to be that only actors, performers and news anchors had to stand in front of a camera. But now? Now things have changed.

Now most of us spend a significant amount of time every day in front of a camera. Whether it is  the camera at the Zoom meeting at work, the  DSLR camera of a content creator using video to grow their business and communicate their business’ message, an influencer talking about the latest awesome make up,  or even the phone camera during a video call with friends and family; we all experience exposure in front of the camera every day.

Maybe some of you might find yourselves in front of the camera more often than you would like. Whether you are filming a vlog, recording a tutorial, shooting a commercial, it is essential to have good camera presence.

Camera presence is the way you come across on camera, including your body language, facial expressions and overall energy. Your on camera presence is also crucial for presentations, interviews or any video recording that needs to make an impact.

You want to come across as confident and knowledgable, and most importantly you want viewers to be invested and interested in what you have to say.

I would like to share with you some tips from the work we do at The Los Angeles Method On Camera Presence Programme, to help you improve on your every day On Camera Presence.

  1. When you talk to everyone, you talk to no one.

Imagine that the camera is a person and you are talking to them. When you look into the lens, do not think of the tens or hundreds of people looking at you. That can create stress and anxiety and the camera is a very sensitive tool that picks up on everything. You want to be relaxed and focused. So try a tool we use in Acting, called “Substitution”. Think of the person you would feel more comfortably talking about the subject you are presenting and imagine they are the camera. Your energy will shift immediately.

2. Plan, but also be in the flow

It is important to know ahead what you want to say. Once you know what you want to say, you can let go and be spontaneous and organic. Think of it as if someone was speaking to you. Would you want them the entire time they were talking to you to be looking at a piece of paper or a presentation board? You would want them to connect with you. We connect when we look into each other’s eyes. Imagine the camera is the eyes.

3. Look at the other person.

As mentioned above, we connect by looking at each other’s eyes. The “eyes” in this case is the lens, not the monitor. Put your attention on your audience, not on your own reflection. Maintain virtual eye contact with your viewer. Create a connection and make the conversation feel natural.

4. Improve Sound and Articulate well.

Voice is an important element of On Camera Presence so it is crucial to have good diction and pronunciation. If you speak too fast or mumble people will have a hard time receiving your message. Speak clearly and deliberately.

5. Light, Sound, Action!

Make sure you are well lit. No one will understand you on camera presence if they can not see you. Ideally you will want three sources of light; a key light: for you - usually in the front, a fill light - usually on the side to make the subject ( you) feel three dimensional and a back light - lighting the background, to separate you from the wall or background. If that set up is not possible, have one source light in front of you, like a window for example. Play with the height of the light source and the shadows it creates on your face.

Make sure your mic is on and not blocked by your hand (if you are holding a phone) or jammed. Sound is very important for a smooth experience.

Frame your self so your audience can clearly see you.

And you are good to go!

Have fun creating!

Benefits of Creative Leadership

The Los Angeles Method Creative Leadership Programme

We all learn all the time. Everyday we receive new information. The world is constantly changing and the new information help us create a new blueprint of the world.

Who is more comfortable with change? Creatives.

I remember being in a discussion a few years ago, among senior level corporate people… they were talking about the fact that in a few years IQ will not be important; instead EQ will be more valued in the business world. Why? The times where someone would join one company and spend all their business life there are gone. People will change 4 to 5, at least, jobs in their career. Who deals better with that kind of change? People with high EQ; Creatives.

The world is changing so fast, people, companies, organisations will have to adjust fast. Who adjusts fast? Creatives.

This is why understanding Creative Leadership is so important nowadays.

How can you grow Creative Leadership skills?

Stronger Confidence

The personal fulfilment you get from learning, boosts your confidence. When you feel empowered and confident you are more likely to take risks, explore new possibilities and embrace new ideas.

Build Trust

The same way the sense of confidence makes you empowered, the same goes for your team. The more you know, the more the others feel trust in your capabilities.

Do you want to learn Acting and Personal Development Techniques for Creative Leadership?

Great! Listen to the podcast by The Los Angeles Method.

TLAM is a dynamic combination of Acting and Personal Development Techniques.

The definition of acting is “Living Truthfully under Imaginary Circumstances”. Acting is not pretending.

Personal Development is about being 100% responsible and conscious of the reality you are creating for your self.

We combine the two to create a method that gives you the tools to create the personal and business life you want and deserve; the same way an actor builds a Role.

Our mission is to change the world by empowering one individual at a time. Enough coaching, more acting!

ABOUT THEODORA

Welcome! My name is Theodora.

I am a very creative person and I wear different “hats” that express me.

I am filmmaker, a theatre creator, a teacher. All my identities are based on creative expression, connection and freedom.

I am the founder of 88 Productions, an award winning production house; led by women, focused on storytelling. We produce short films, documentaries, videos, we create theatre productions and we run an acting studio. In the acting studio we teach The Los Angeles Method; a dynamic combination of Acting and Personal Development Techniques.

It all started for me when I was really very young. I always knew I loved stories. I loved telling them, listening to them, helping others expressing them.

My father was one of the most legendary actors in Greece, which means I grew up in film sets, studios, theatre dressing rooms. He is the reason I love this business so much; the SHOW business.

I have learned early on that if you want to succeed, you need to show up and be willing to tell your story.

This is what I have been doing with my work through filmmaking, videography, theatre creation, photography, our Acting Studio; supporting people in showing up, sharing their authenticity, their voice and making an impact.

I believe the world can become a better place if we empower and lift each other. I do that through the stories I tell in my films and videos, at my photoshoots, in my theatre plays and in my classes. We empower one person at a time. Enough coaching, more acting! Time for Creative Leadership!

Love and Light to all.
